The Big One
So it started snowing on Friday afternoon about 4pm. You could here the wind howling all night long and when I got up at 5:30am to get ready for work, I looked out and couldn't see much of anything but snow. So at 6:30 I went out to clean off the car but it was pretty much cleaned off because of the wind. There were some spots in the yard that had no snow and then other spots that had 3 feet of snow. So I went back inside to warm up and get my coffee ready for the trip. Well I went out with my coffee, bag with shoes for work and other essentials for work and my purse. I put the car in 4 wheel drive and started out and got about a car length and got stuck. So I got the shovel and started to dig out, then John came out to help and he shoveled and I tried to go back and forth with the car but no luck. Then coming down the road is a tow truck with a plow on the front and we asked him how much to plow the driveway and he said $75, we thought that was a good price for our long drive way so I ran inside to get the checkbook. So the man cleared the drive and got my car out from being stuck. So then off I go again and I got out on Rt 10 which is right in front of the house and got about 50 yards and then I was stuck again. So I asked the tow truck driver if he would pull me out, so he put chains on his tires and pulled me out, while I waited for him to pull me out a tractor trailor tow truck came down the road and one of the guys jumped out and started yelling at me asking where was I going and I said to work and he said where do you work, I told him a Pharmacy and he said go back in the house and stay there. Well this guy isn't my boss, which expected me to be at work at 8am, and now its is 7:34am and I wasn't going to make it in by 8am. So I called my boss and told him I wouldn't be there to open at 8 and I couldn't leave until a plow truck when down the road. He said just get there as soon as you can. Oh it also cost me another $40 for the guy to pull me out of the road. So I went in the house and waited til a plow truck went by. We watched truck after truck get stuck in front of the house. Finally at about 10am a road grader with a huge plow on the front went by so I said ok I'm trying again. So I suited up and started out, I saw 2 more cars stuck and a car abandoned that has slid off the road into some trees. I followed the grader plow up to almost rt 30. So I took my time and got to work at 11am and we actually had customers as soon as I opened the doors. A guy that was walking bought some chips, a soda and some cigarettes. Another guy that was driving came in for a greeting card. Then a bunch of guys with a woman came in and she got a prescription and the guys bought soda's and one bought a movie. A guy came in for diapers, another for gloves, a bunch of guys came in for snacks and cigars, a woman came in for a prescription and a paper. I was there as a cashier until 2 when Dave came in and then I could get some work done and at 3:15 my boss called and said we could close at 4pm. We hadn't had a customer in about 30 minutes. at about 3:30 a 93 year old man came in to get his prescription, I said he doesn't need to be out in this mess he could fall and break hip. The car he was driving looked like he had hit something, the passengers side headlight had a big black skid mark on it like he him a tire or something. Then at 3:55 a woman called to see if her doctor called in a prescription and he had it was on the message machine so the pharmacist filled it and I asked her "so you will pick this up tomorrow because we are closing at 4pm" and she said no I'll be there before 4. So then she called back and said she would be there in 1o to 15 minutes. We waited until 4:30 and she didn't show and we didn't have a phone number for her to call to see if she was coming so we left at it was now 4:40 and I was cleaning off my car and she pulled up into the parking lot, I'm sure we will have a complaint called in on us for not waiting for her. Oh well If we waited anymore she probably wouldn't have come. The company wanted us home before it got dark and the roads froze over. I got home fine, the roads still had snow on them and in someplaces the snow was still drifting on the road. I was glad to get home. It was a tiring day.
